The Beginning of Hip Hop
The first mention of hip hop dance dates back to the 70’s when some new moves were introduced to the dance world to accompany the funky sounds of hip hop music that was also being discovered. Most popular among African Americans and Latin Americans at first, there are many races who now lay claim to defining this diverse dance phenomenon. Hip-hop culture has been internationally recognized with the 70th. Its main components are rap (MC'ing), break-dance, graffiti, street types of sports games.

The Beginning of Contemoprary Dance
Contemporary dance is a style of dance which emerged in the 20th century as an outgrowth of modern dance and other 20th century dance techniques. Contemporary dancers like Martha Graham wanted to move even further from the rules and more toward improvisation. Rather than rejecting ballet as modern dance did, contemporary dance fused it with modern dance and redefined the “axis” of body movement.

In the 1900's European dances started to reject the confined rules of ballet. Instead, the dancers preferred a more relaxed style and performed barefooted. Thus, mordern dance is in opposition to ballet whereby the dancers use the weight of thier bodies to enhace movement Modern. The pioneers of modern dance in America are Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, Ruth St.Dennis, Ted Shawn.

The Beginning of Jazz Dance
The history of jazz dance started in Africa though many believe that jazz dance originated in the United States.
The birthplace of jazz has various origins: New Orleans, St. Louis, Memphis and Kansas City are just a few. But New Orleans was and still remainders a main jazz center.
With the growing domination of other forms of entertainment music, jazz dance evolved on Broadway into the new, smooth style that is taught today and known as Modern Jazz. The performance style of jazz dance was popularized to a large extent by Bob Fosses work, which is exemplified by Broadway shows such as Chicago, Cabaret, Damn Yankees, and The Pajama Game.

The Beginning of Ballet Dance
Ballet originated as court dances (mainly Pas de Bourrees and balances/waltzes) in Italy, but quickly migrated to France where they futhur developed steps and gave them names (which is why all the ballet terms are French). The dances were for royalty, and only for men.
King Louis the XIV is credited for opening the first ballet academy called L'Academie Royale de Danse.

What Is Dance In My Eyes?
Dance Is. . . .
A freedom of expression/creativity
A sense of joy
A sense of achieving something which embodies you as a whole
A sharing your passion with others who are down to earth/open/happy as you are
I often describe dance as MY form of meditation because it connects me to my artistic self and acts as an escape from my daily life.
